When are you classes held?

Our core program runs on a Wednesday evening. Ballet, acrobatics and Youth Company rehearsal’s run on Monday eveings. For further information and class timetable email info@lehenda.com.au

How many levels are there and how are dancers allocated into levels?

There are 5 different levels Kinder - 6. Dancers are usually put with children of similar age groups, however individual ability is also taken into consideration. Each level rehearses in a separate studio space.

Who are the teachers?

We are fortunate to have a highly experienced team of teachers. Click here to read more about every teacher and their background. As part of the core program on a Wednesday evening, Level 2-5 classes are divided into 4 lessons taught by different teachers specialising in these areas.

What do classes cost?

The classes vary in price depending on the level (length of classes). You can email info@lehenda.com.au for a 'Fee and Payment Policy'.

Where do the fees go?

The fees go to space hire, teacher payment and insurance for the dancers.

Are there any additional fees?

Yes - there is an annual costume levy that goes towards the purchase of fabrics for new costumes, costume maintenance and storage.

How often and where do the dancers perform?

The school holds an annual concert where all dancers perform. We aim for every class (beside kinder) to perform minimum one more time a year. The dancers perform at Ukrainian Community functions/ events AND wider community festivals/ events/ functions. Some groups can perform up to 6 times a year. 

Do we need to help sew costumes?

Lehenda has a costume team that design, source fabrics and sew costumes. They do ask for volunteers to assist where possible. We understand that not all parents are able to sew. Occasionally there are workshops to help sort, mend or make head pieces. Help is appreciated where possible.

Are the additional classes compulsory?

No, we run Acrobatics, ballet classes and Youth Company rehearsals on a Monday evening. These classes are not compulsory however we encourage dancers to take them up to strengthen their bodies and improve their dancing.

Do Lehenda School dancers automatically progress to the Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company?

Auditions for the company are held annually. Priority is given to the school students.

Is Lehenda affiliated with any other organisation?

Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company and School of dance is an independent dance organisation. We are members of Ausdance Victoria, Multicultural Arts Victoria and are active participants of the Ukrainian Community, participating  and/or performing at various events, festivals, functions and parades. 

Do We Need To Be Ukrainian To Learn Ukrainian Dancing?

Absolutely not! We welcome all dancers to our school and love to share the amazing Ukrainian dance style.

Lehenda is made up of dancers and teachers of both Ukrainian and non Ukrainian backgrounds.
