Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company is performing artist Eva Abbinga's work The Well. Conceived to commemorate the genocide of Ukrainian people under the rule of Stalin, the work has taken on new meaning with the current political situation in Ukraine. Exploring themes of nationalism, religion and the role of folk traditions in contemporary culture, Abbinga’s work will see 24 performers dressed in traditional Eastern Ukrainian costumes carrying the hand-dyed charcoal flags from West Space Gallery along Bourke Street to the steps of the Victorian Parliament House, where they will be held as a temporary memorial.
