Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company, School of Dance operates from the Melanie Moravski Dechnicz Ukrainian Dance Syllabus.
Developed by Lehenda Artistic Director, the syllabus encourages students to grow technically and achieve excellence in Ukrainian Dance.
Dancers learn both Classical and Ukrainian Character styles of barre and centre work. The Ukrainian work, not only focuses on technique but also introduces a number of different regions of Ukraine, asking dancers early in the class to demonstrate different styles and energy.
There is a large emphasis on performance quality throughout the class, as dancers learn not only technical skills, but also movement phrases specific to different regions of Ukraine teaching them to use energy and emotion in numerous ways.
There is a strong focus on the use of épaulement, beat work, pirouettes, large jumps for male dancers and partner work.
Each level flows onto the next providing the dancers with a seamless development.
